BAKERSFIELD - Ruth Maria Machia, age 93, passed away Friday July 20, 2007 at the Haven Health Care Facility in St. Albans with her loving family at her side.
\tShe was born February 23, 1914 in Fairfield, VT the daughter of the late Olcott & Violet (Croft) McGowan.
\tShe was a resident of Bakersfield most of her life and was a member of the Bakersfield Congregational Church. She had always loved being a homemaker but when she was left as a widow at the age of 40 she went to work at Kerbs Memorial Hospital for 20 years retiring in 1976, she was in charge of central supply.
\tShe is survived by a son and his wife, Lane & Becky Stone of East Fairfield; 2 daughters, Eleanor Kittell and her husband Donald of East Fairfield, and Polly Cosgrove of Bakersfield; 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Brigham of Bakersfield; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her 1st husband, Ivan Stone; her 2nd husband, Bernard Machia; a son, Douglas Stone; a son-in-law, Thomas Cosgrove; and 2 brothers, Gerald & Carl McGowan.
\tFuneral services will be held Monday July 23, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Bakersfield Congregational Church with Rev. Sue Marie Baskette officiating. Interment will follow the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
\tVisiting hours will be held Sunday from 6-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
