BERKSHIRE - Sadie G. Winchester, age 92, passed away Wednesday evening November 21, 2012 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born March 12, 1920 in Manchester, NH the daughter of the late Frank & Melissa (Stewart) Rollins.
Sadie moved to Canada at the age of four and as a young woman she worked at the Mac Molden Factory in Waterloo, Quebec. On December 11, 1946 she married Kermit Winchester of Berkshire at which point she became The Farmers Wife , together operating the dairy farm that Kermit was born on until their retirement in 1988. Sadie & Kermit loved children; although they had no children of their own they adopted all of the neighborhood children. Sadie loved the life on the farm, caring for the animals, working in her flower gardens, having fun with her neighbors and friends, playing with her grandchildren and enjoying her tea & toast. She and Kermit also attended the Berkshire Center 2nd Congregational Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Linda Stanley of Berkshire; her grandchildren, Jack Stanley of Hudson, NH, Brandy Couture and her husband Daniel of Berkshire, and Ryan Stanley of Fairfax; her great grandchildren, Connor, Jonathan, Brennan, Mallory & Quinn; her sister, Beulah Smith of Granby, Quebec; her nieces, Carol Smith of Granby, Quebec, and Kathryn Aiken and her husband Alan of Newport; and her nephew, Garth Smith and his wife Joyce of Burlington, Ontario; several great nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Kermit Winchester; her son, Dallas Jack Stanley; her sisters, Ruth Smith & Hattie Smith; and her brothers, Dan & Vernon Rollins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday December 1, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the Berkshire Center 2nd Congregational Church, Watertower Road, Berkshire Center with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in the East Franklin Cemetery
A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 3-6 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
