Montgomery Center - Stanley Sinclair Gillis
Tuesday evening, November 4th, while in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his loving family and precious cats Taz and Tilly, Stanley left his loved ones behind to build a new home in heaven for his beloved Lorraine.
He was born on June 18, 1927, a mere 81 years ago in Eastport, Maine the son of Eleanor and John Gillis, who have predeceased him. He was brother to George, Allan, Arnold, Mildred, Betty and Eleanor. He is survived by his two sisters Eleanor and Mildred whom he loved dearly.
During World War II he fibbed about his age and at 16 he joined the United States Merchant Marines where he served for two years delivering ammunition to the troops around the world. When he turned 18 he was then inducted into the U.S. Air Force and served his country for three years until, in December of 1948, he was discharged with the rank of Corporal. During that time he fell in love with a beautiful young woman named Lorraine Lumbra whom he married and was devoted to for 60 wonderful years. Together they made her birthplace of Montgomery Center their home.
When Stanley wasnt working on his Little Fruit Farm, he loved to work in his garden or workshop, strum his guitar or paint. He had many hobbies and loved to share his interests with his family and friends. He had an insatiable curiosity and loved to learn new things every day of his life.
Stanley and Lorraine gave life to nine children who then gave them 25 grandchildren and they in turned gave them the gift of 24 great-grandchildren with a 25th expected. Home and family were his greatest treasures and he felt like the richest man in the world because of it. Although he himself is gone, his seed will spread for eternity and he shall forever remain in our hearts.
Stanley leaves behind his beloved Lorraine, his children Christine Clapper and her husband Michael, Linda St. Cyr and her husband Oscar, Suzanne Berkson and her husband Sidney, Joanne Deaette and her husband Gary, John Gillis and his love Sharon Martell, Francine Roy and her love Jim Feldhousen, Mary Vaillancourt and her husband Pierre, Mark Gillis and his wife Ginny, Jan McAllister and her husband Randy, his many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, loving extended family and friends, and of course Taz and Tilly.
