RICHFORD - Stanley Spoor Greene, age 91, passed away Monday morning April 30, 2012.
He was born in Enosburgh on July 24, 1920 the son of the late, William Henry & Gyneth (Sayles) Greene.
Stanley attended Franklin elementary School and was a graduate of Franklin High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 serving during WWII as a control tower operator with the 130th Army Airways Communications System Squadron, receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. He then went to work for the U.S Department of the Treasury as a U.S. Customs Agent for 35 years, retiring in December of 1979.
Stanley enjoyed hunting, sugaring and practicing forest management on his land. In his younger years, Stanley spent many happy hours hiking and hunting the Green Mountains, with a series of faithful canine companions. He taught his children and grandchildren as many life lessons as he could, always stressing hard work and high moral standards. Stan enjoyed comedies such as The Carol Burnett Show, Red Skelton and The Three Stoogies.
Stanley was married to Ruth Elizabeth (Lemnah) Greene on Christmas Eve, 1947 and she predeceased him on May 21, 1969. He is survived by their four children and families, Pam Greene and Dave Bennion, Judy Greene Meredith, Nancy G. and Wayne Killam and Jim and Louise Greene. He is survived by six grandchildren; Tyler Meredith, Kristen Blake, Keven Killam, Betsy, Michelle and Caleb Greene and three great grandchildren, Nicholas, Jamison and Zachary Blake.
He is survived by his brother Arthur and Cathy Greene, sister Barbara Rollo; his sister-in-law Marilyn (Lemnah) Laidman; and his brother-in-law George Lemnah. He was predeceased by his siblings; Robert Greene, Ruth Rashaw, Helen Magnant and Marion Waters.
He is survived by his wife, Edith (Vance) Patterson Greene; and her three children - Sheila, Jeff and Larry and their families.
Funeral services and visiting hours will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
