Susan Palin

February 13, 1952 — January 21, 2011

SHELDON - Susan M. Palin, age 58, passed away Friday evening January 21, 2011 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with her loving family at her side after a long courageous battle with cancer.

She was born February 13, 1952 in Newport the daughter of Mary Louise (Schurman) Palin & James Palin Sr.

Susan graduated with honors from North Country Union High School and earned degrees from University of Vermont and Bloomsburg State College in Bloomsburg, PA. Her teaching career started with the Orleans Essex School District, then Sheldon & Franklin Elementary Schools and for the past 32 years she was a much respected speech & language pathologist at the Swanton Elementary School where she loved the children who will miss her dearly.

Susan was a member, Clerk of Vestry and important supporter of the Grace Episcopal Church in Sheldon. She was also a trustee of the Sheldon Library Board for many years. She was an active participant in the Relay for Life.

Susans hobbies included scrapbooking, reading, watching the Boston Red Sox, watching ice hockey, and music having played her clarinet in area bands. She was even known to play in a womens pick-up ice hockey league. Susan enjoyed going to the ocean in Maine and for the past few summers she cherished the time spent at Lake Eden with her Mother.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Palin of Derby; her daughter, Kate Greenwood and her partner Kari Orost of Highgate; her longtime companion and father of Kate, Rocky Greenwood of Sheldon; her brother, James Palin Jr and his wife Lorette of Newport and their children, Lynda Ryan, Ellen Breault, Rhonda Cole, Vincent Fulford, Molly Sue, Ruffie & Henok; her sister, Kathryn Sloan and her husband James of East Charleston and their children, Mark, Rebel & Mary; her sister, Barbara LeMay and her husband Mark of Troy and their children, Michael & Melina; and a special great niece Hayden. Susan was predeceased by her father, James Palin Sr.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday January 26, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Grace Episcopal Church, 215 Pleasant Street, Sheldon with Rev. Janet K. Brown officiating. Interment will be this spring in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
