EAST BAKERSFIELD - Thomas Hickey, age 83, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2015 at his home in East Bakersfield.
He was born January 19, 1932 in Poughkeepsie, NY to the late William & Margaret (McDonald) Hickey.
Tom grew up in New York and married Betty Buchanan on December 6, 1969. He worked as an engineer for IBM for most of his career. In 1976 Tom and Betty moved to Vermont and settled in East Bakersfield. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing golf and taking care of his yard. He also enjoyed working with his tractor, especially snow blowing. Tom had a passion for sports, especially football, and in his younger years he would referee high school athletics.
He is survived by his sister, Catherine H G Boyd of Orleans, MA; 2 nieces, Catherine Gallagher of Port Orange, FL and Joy Gallagher of Ulster Park, NY; 2 nephews, John Gallagher of Danbury, CT and Tom Gallagher of Milton, NY; a step-grandson, Michael Cochran of Warwick, NY and close friend, Bernie Loso and his wife Ksenija of East Bakersfield. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his wife, Betty Hickey and step-son, Thomas Gregory Cochran.
In keeping with Toms wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest with his wife Betty in St. Marys Cemetery in Marlboro, NY.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at 11:00 AM at DiDinatos Funeral Home in Marlboro with a reception to follow.
