ISLE LA MOTTE – Thomas I. LaBombard, age 80, a lifelong resident of Isle La Motte passed away peacefully on Monday, February 21, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at his home.
He was born on May 11, 1941 to the late Ira & Yvonne (Bombard) LaBombard. Tom was one of the few true Isle Lamotters being born on Main Street in the same house and room as his father Ira in 1901.
On October 27, 1963 was married to his wife and life partner, Shirley (Sturgeon) of Alburgh.
Tom was a true lover of Isle La Motte and had many interests and accomplishments, his favorite being a private Pilot, and volunteering for many community and county activities. His proudest moment was when he and his wife transferred ownership of the “Patnode Farm” now known as the Goodsell Ridge Fossil Preserve for education and research, the oldest Coral Reef in the world. Located on Quarry Road, Isle La Motte with the help and dedication of Linda Fiske, Robert McQuin, Attorney Sarah Fields of Barre, VT, state agencies, along with many individuals devoting hours to preserve our ancient history.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley LaBombard of Isle La Motte; two daughters, Aimee L. Grimes and Melanie LaBombard both of Isle La Motte; grandchildren, Joel Grimes LaBombard and his wife Jennifer Guay of Isle La Motte, and Alexandra (Grimes) Dickson and her husband Scott of Ocala, Florida; two great grandchildren, Vince and Victoria Grimes; one sister, Shirley LaBombard who predeceased him in 1936; brothers-in-law, Duane Sturgeon and his wife Faye of Champlain, New York, Robert LaBombard and his friend Mickey of Sarasota, Florida; sister-in-law, Marie Sturgeon of Ocala, Florida; nieces, Karen L. Cross and Kira Sturgeon; nephews, Robert “Bobby” LaBombard and Shane Sturgeon; and many cousins and close friends.
Family and friends are invited to Tom’s Life Celebration Interment on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 10:30 AM in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Isle La Motte.
