ENOSBURG FALLS - Thomas O. Martell, affectionately known as "Big Dog," passed away at the age of 74 on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Born on July 23, 1950, in Swanton, VT, Tommy was the apple of his mother's eye and filled his childhood with laughter, joy, and a little mischief. He was the son of Floyd & Helen (Brooks) Martell and grew up in Swanton.

Big Dog carved out a fulfilling life for himself as a machine operator at Champlain Cable, where he worked for many years. In his younger years, he helped his father with construction and snow plowing, activities that not only shaped his meticulous approach, but also cemented his love for the outdoors.

One of Big Dog's greatest joys was spending time at the family camp in Montgomery, which he converted into a year-round home. His meticulous approach to mowing lawns was legendary, as he took immense pride in maintaining beautiful green spaces. Big Dog was an active member of the community including the American Legion Post #42 in Enosburg Falls where he served as Commander of the Sons, the Enosburg Falls Lions Club, and the Tuesday night "Meat Club." Friends and family will fondly remember Big Dog for his story-telling and his bug deflector, proudly adorned with "Big Dog."

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Martell, her son, Bryan Rodger and his significant other Miranda Carroll and his son Khane; his sister, Donna Beaulieu, her children Mark Beaulieu and his wife Mary, and Allen Beaulieu and his wife Laurie and their families; mother-in-law, Jeannean Sylvester; siblings-in-law, Wayne Sylvester and his wife Mary, and Michelle Audette and her husband Jeff and their families; special friends, Marilyn & Mickey Abell, Brent & Cindy Lussier, Paul Michel & Sheila, Kevin Bellevue, and Shawn & Cynthia Teague. In addition to his parents, Big Dog was predeceased by his first wife, Jane Martell; brother-in-law, Jacques Beaulieu; and niece, Marie St. Francis.

In keeping with Big Dog's wishes, there will be a private burial at his family's convenience.

For those who wish, contributions in Big Dog's memory may be made to the American Legion Post #42, 108 Depot Street, Enosburg Falls, VT 05450.
