NORWICH, CT - Thomas J. Cook, MD, age 77, passed away Thursday November 24, 2011 at the Yale-New Haven Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born January 26, 1934 in Kingston, PA the son of the late Harry E. & Lenna A. (Brown) Cook
Dr. Cook received his Bachelors Degree from Bucknell University in 1955 and his Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1959. He then served his residency at the University of Chicago. In 1964 he started his Dermatological practice in Norwich and was joined in the practice by Dr. K. Stephens Taylor in 1966 with Dr. Cook retiring in 2000. He also served as Clinical Associate Professor at Yale University School of Medicine from 1964 to 2001.
Dr. Cook was a lifetime member of the Connecticut State Medical Society, New London County Medical Society and the American Academy of Dermatology. When he was younger he enjoyed traveling, having visited many places around the world and the United States.
He is survived by his son, Nathaniel Takao Cook of Fujisawa City, Japan whom Dr. Cook adopted in 1987. He is also survived by a brother, Eugene Cook and his wife Ann of Bradford, RI; his nephew & Godson, Thomas E. Cook and his wife Deborah of Enosburg Falls, VT; and a niece, Susan Gibeault and her family of Florida. Besides his parents Harry & Lenna, Dr. Cook was predeceased by a great nephew, Thomas S. Cook.
In keeping with Dr. Cooks wishes there will be no public services. Interment will take place in the Cook family lot at the Northumberland Memorial Park in Sunbury, PA.
