FRANKLIN - Walter F. Mike Blass, 82 , a resident of Patten Shore Road in Franklin passed away, following a brief illness, on Thursday afternoon, February 22, 2007 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with his family at his side.
Walter was born on October 14, 1924 in Millerton, NY, the son of Fred H. and Elsapeth (Schaeffer) Blass. He was a US Marines veteran of WW II.
A resident of Chatham, NY for most of his life, Walter had been employed by Crelin Plastic and ConRail. Following his retirement from ConRail he retired to Franklin, VT.
Walter was a member of American Legion Post # 100 in Montpelier, VT. He particularly enjoyed hunting, fishing, bingo and internet poker.
Walter is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Belinda Blass and Jamie Meunier and their children Katelyn and Taylor of Franklin, VT and a daughter and son-in-law Karen and Tom Rosas and their children Kimberly, Richard and Christopher of California; his special friends Nathan Dunavin and Jennifer Reynolds; Aaron Meunier and Lily Meunier who Walter thought of as his grandchildren; several great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter was predeceased by his wife Catherine (Lapier) Blass who died in 1994; a son Edmund Butch Pitcher who died in 1969; a brother Harry Blass and 4 sisters Cecelia Blass, Ethel Hudson, Mildred Weeks and Lois Gawron.
Friends are invited to call at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue in Enosburg Falls on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00. Transfer will be made to the Wenk Funeral Home, 21 Payn Ave. in Chatham, NY where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call at the Wenk Funeral Home on Tuesday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Interment will take place in the Chatham (NY) Rural Cemetery.
