ENOSBURG FALLS - Weltha (Gates) Bingham, age 89, widow of Leonard Bingham, died peacefully Tuesday evening July 8, 2008 at her home of 60 years, with her family at her side.
She was born Weltha Charlotte Gates on June 2, 1919 in Enosburg Falls the daughter of the late Leon & Lona (King) Gates.
Weltha was known for her dedication to her church, the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Choir for 45 years and served as the church gate-keeper for many years. She was known in the community for her garden, growing her own raspberries and making flakey, mouth watering raspberry pies. She was also known as the Enosburg lady on her three wheel bicycle. Weltha remained dedicated to her home state of Vermont til the time of her death.
Weltha was salutatorian of the class of 1937 at Richford High School. She was able to join other classmates for their 70th high school reunion last summer, but did not recently attend her 71st.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Wilma Swank Pitzer and her husband John of Englewood, OH; son, Dale Bingham and his wife Susan of Irasburg; her grandchildren, Bradley Swank and his wife Leigh Ann of St. Paris, OH, Christopher Swank of Kettering, OH, Andrew Bingham of Pasadena, CA, Linley, Krista & Caitlin Bingham and their mother Anne Grassette - Harvey all of Enosburg Falls; a step-granddaughter, Jillian Harvey of Portland, ME; and her only great grandchild, Kaetlyn Swank of St. Paris, OH. Weltha was predeceased by her infant sister, Wilma; her two infant sons, Charles & Lonnie; her teenage daughter, Gloria; her husband Leonard Bingham; and her parents, Leon & Lona Gates.
Funeral services will be held Saturday July 12, 2008 at 10:00 AM at the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church with Pastor Jon Patrick Bly officiating. Interment will follow in the East Berkshire Congregational Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 6-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
