William Bill Woodrow Kittell, 91, long time resident of Richford, died Monday evening, March 12, 2007 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Born on March 12, 1916, Bill was the 12th and final child of the late Guy and Emma (Gover) Kittell. After spending many years working on their family farm in Richford, he enlisted in the army at the age of 26. After completing basic training out west he was deployed overseas to Casablanca, Africa, and from the years 1942-1945 he proudly served in 7 different battles; Tunisia, Africa, Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Anro, Southern France, Rhineland, and North Apennies. Before returning to the US he also served our country while stationed in Trinidad and Puerto Rico.
After returning from his military service, he married Barbara Bobbie Helen Fortier on Sept. 5, 1945. They have been married for 62 years. Bill and Bobbie purchased and worked their family farm in Franklin from 1949-1965. They then returned to Richford where he was employed by Sweat-Comings for several years before moving on to Northland where he supervised the manufacturing of hockey sticks, until he retired in 1982. After retirement Bill spent his days woodworking, gardening, helping family and friends with projects and being a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend.
Bill was a member of the First Baptist Church of Richford and served as a trustee from the 1960s to 2004. He was also elected Selectman for the town of Richford in the 1970s, was a member of the VFW Post # 11319, and the American Legion Post #12 both of Richford.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara (Fortier) Kittell of Richford, his children and their spouses, Blaine and Gretchen Kittell of Berkshire, Bill Kittell of Sharon, Brenda and Albert Desrochers of Enosburg Falls and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren Tara, Jen and Trever Gross, Kristi, Kari, Kyli and Kati Tatro, Jason and Christopher Kittell, and Guy, Albert Andy and Phillip Kittell and 2 great grandchildren Blaine and Ashley Kittell. Also many niece and nephews and his loving supportive neighbors. ;. Besides his parents he was predeceased by; a son, Brigg Kittell; a daughter, Bonnie (Kittell) Gross; 7 sisters and 4 brothers.
Visiting Hours will be held Friday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday March 17 at 11am at the Richford First Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will be held later this spring at the Richford Center Cemetery.
