Richford - Winifred M. Winnie Labare ,87, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 14, 2011 at Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.
Winifred was born on June 12, 1924 in London, England, the daughter of Henry and Sara (Johnson) Dowsett.
Winifred grew up in England where she attended Woolidge Polytech and studied to become a tailor. She met her husband, Paul while he was serving in the US Army in England and they married on January 22, 1945. Following the war, they came with their daughter to their home in Richford. Winifred was best known for the sewing, tailoring and upholstery work she did for many area residents. She was also employed at Frechette Dry Cleaners and later at Blue Seal Feeds where she retired after over 20 years of employment.
Winifred was a parishioner at St. Annes Episcopal Church in Richford and was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid hunter along with her husband Paul.
Surviving are Winifreds daughter and her husband Christine and Wayne Potvin of Uncasville, CT; a granddaughter Tiesha Potvin Coale of Old Lyme, CT; a sister and her husband Alma and Leslie Green of London, England and many nieces and nephews in England.
In addition to her parents, Winifred was predeceased by her husband Paul in 1989, her grandson Christopher Wayne Potvin and 2 brothers Harry and Alec Dowsett.
Friends are invited to attend graveside services on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Hillside Cemetery in Richford with Rev. Jane Butterfield officiating. There are no calling hours planned.
