CHAMPLAIN, NY / SWANTON - Yvette D. Hughes, age 71, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at the Plattsburgh Nursing & Rehab Center.
She was born in St. Albans on May 13, 1946 the daughter of the late Donald & Dorothy (Lachapelle) Scott.
Yvette was a hardworking woman with a heart of gold. She worked alongside Pops for years doing yard care and other landscaping duties. She used her incredible work ethic cleaning houses and doctors offices, and took pride in the immaculate work she performed. Yvette was known for her famous oatmeal raisin cookies that would melt in your mouth. Sharing her cookies with friends, family and Swanton locals made her happy. She even personally delivered them by bicycle or her riding lawn mower that she rode around town on. When she found time to relax, she truly enjoyed playing Bingo, going out to dinner and shopping with her children and grandchildren. Spending time in Canada visiting with her sister and her family was another pastime that she always looked forward to.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Hughes of Champlain; her children, Roberta Robin Martin her partner Allen Fortune of Shoreham, Linda Bergeron her husband John of Bridport, David Martin his wife Tammy of Burlington, Dorothy Martin of Milton, Debra Metcalf her husband Pete of Swanton, and George Martin Sr. and wife Courtney of Champlain, NY; siblings, David Scott his wife Mila of St. Albans, Ronald Scott his wife Risa of Richford, Ricky Scott his wife Trish of Manchester, NH, Wendy Shedrick her husband Ralph of Clarenceville, Que. and in-laws Henry Bougor, several nieces and nephews, 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband, Alfred Martin, children Paula and Alfred, sister Linda Bougor, granddaughter Jodi Martin and a great grandson Austin Ploof.
A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton, Vermont. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Swanton, Vermont.
